FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Alaska volleyball team held its annual Spike Club Awards Banquet Sunday afternoon and eight different Nanooks garnered the team's post-season accolades for the 2011 season.
Junior
Casey Tidwell was named Offensive Player of the Year, while junior
Allison Oddy was tabbed Defensive Player of the Year.
Tidwell led the team and ranked 16th in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a .227 hitting percentage (214-73-621). Her 214 kills was 20th in the league and she averaged 2.74 points per set, which placed 18th. Oddy, who anchored the Nanooks defense at the libero position, tallied 4.45 digs per set, a mark that was sixth-best in the conference.
Senior
Jordyn Montgomery received the PHD (Pride, Hustle & Desire) Award after appearing in all 26 matches, making five starts. She was third on the team in both digs (234) and service aces (15).
Other award winners included freshman Morgan Tebbs (Most Improved), sophomore
Keri Knight (Unsung Hero Award) and freshmen
Kylie Dickerson and
Chelsey-Jo Wilson (Selfless Service Awards).
In addition, Alaska's four members of the GNAC Academic All-Conference Team, which consisted of Knight, Montgomery, Oddy and senior
Karlee Skalla, received their certificates from the conference during the banquet.
