Eight Nanooks highlight GNAC Academic All-Conference Selection

SPOKANE, WA – Eight Alaska volleyball student-athletes have been named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference volleyball team on Wednesday.  The team is comprised of student-athletes who have attained a 3.2 cumulative GPA, in their second year at their institution, and be a projected letter winner.

The eight Nanooks players, which include four repeat performers, were a GNAC high out of the 43 student-athletes to be named to the team.  Western Washington and Northwest Nazarene each had seven selections.

Sophomore Jennifer Holland, a civil engineering major, has the top GPA of the team with a perfect 4.0 mark to make her first appearance on the team.

Seniors Alexa Sherman (Arts and Sciences), Hannah Armstrong (Business), Jessica Hill (Journalism), and Megan Thigpen (Business Administration) were four of eleven players to be selected for the third consecutive season.

Juniors Erica Gage (Psychology) and Melissa Refuerzo (Business Administration) each are repeat performers on the team after being selected last season while senior Heather Lyons (Sociology) was selected for the first time.

The Nanooks continue play Thursday when they host Seattle Pacific at 7:00 p.m.  Saturday will be senior day for the five Nanook seniors before their match with Northwest Nazarene, which is set to start at 5:00 p.m.
