Brock Anundson is in his fifth year as the Director of Athletics for the Alaska Nanooks athletic department in 2025-26. Anundson was named Director of Athletics by UAF Chancellor Daniel White on July 12th, 2021.
Anundson has made an impact with the university since his arrival. To date, he has hired head coaches for four programs and executed four head coaching contract extensions. Additionally, the department has undergone comprehensive personnel and operational restructures, leading to increased innovative techniques to university collaborations and logistical efficiencies, with a strong focus on financial management, resource generation, and the student-athlete experience.
Subsequently, Alaska Nanooks Athletics has experienced exceptional academic, fan engagement, community service, resource generation, student-athlete support, and competitive successes as highlighted below:
Resource Generation:
- 25% YoY increase in total ticketing revenue.
- 25% YoY increase in UA foundation fund contributions.
- 15% YoY increase in corporate sponsorship revenue.
- Secured over $300,000 from donors for the Nanooks Athletic Training Room Relocation and Renovation at the Patty Center.
- Cultivated $300,000 from Usibelli Coal Mine for a new World-Class Ski Trail System on campus
- Secured over $200,000 from donors for the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium's new floor and space renovations at the Patty Center.
- Consistent YoY increase throughout Annual UAF Giving Day totals and donors, totaling $700k and over 200 donors (including 40-50 new each year).
Capital Projects:
- Alaska Airlines Gymnasium new floor and design, lighting and sound system, and gymnasium renovation project completed summer of 2023 (first new floor in 40-years).
- Patty Center Locker Room renovations, providing equal access for all Nanooks sport programs in summer 2022
- Patty Center Athletic Training Room and Ski Room project – to be completed in 2024 in partnership with McKinley Orthopedics & Sports Medicine
- World-Class Ski Trail System Project on campus, including student, community, and NCAA Championship and Olympic capabilities – to be completed in 2025 in partnership with Usibelli Coal Mine
- Advisement with FNSB on Carlson Center transition from Olympic-size to NHL-size ice, including complete lower-bowl bleacher replacement and box suites
- New On-Campus Arena Initiative – Advisement to Nanooks Athletics Alliance, a community group with the goal of an on-campus arena
Holistic Support of Student-Athletes:
- Created a new five and ten-year partnership and sponsorship (respectively) comprehensive medical and team physician partnership with McKinley Orthopedics & Sports Medicine (MO).
- Established a mental health support unit for student-athletes with collaboration from MO, Campus Health, and Athletic Training.
- Established a nutrition station for student-athletes in the Athletic Training Room.
- Integrated a Sports Psychologist (in collaboration with Ft. Wainwright Army Base) to support all student-athletes' mental health coaching needs.
- Designed and launched in collaboration with the Head Athletic Trainer a checkpoint and check-in program to holistically monitor athletic training needs, maintain proper training room protocols, and educate student-athletes in coordination with recent NCAA Division standards.
- Designed and launched, in collaboration with the Head Athletic Trainer, innovative processes to streamline physicals, concussion testing, cardiology testing, and more through collaboration with athletic training and MO.
Academic Excellence:
- Three consecutive academic years achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.43 or higher.
- 75% of Nanook student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher.
- 80% Graduation Success Rate over three years.

Campus and Community Engagement:
- Over 3,000 hours of community service through volunteering at 40 different organizations.
- Hosted seven university graduations (Carlson Center) since 2021. • Hosted the 2022, 2023, and 2024 State of Alaska Basketball Regional Championships.
- Hosted the NCAA Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association (RMISA) Regional Ski Championships at Birch Hill in 2022.
- Hosted the NCAA Patriot Rifle Conference (PRC) Championships at the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium in 2023.
- Secured the 2025 NCAA Regional Ski Championships.
- Hosted over 200 Athletics events and 200 non-athletics events in Athletics facilities.
- Hosted the State of Alaska Senior Games for the past three summers in the Alaska Airlines Gymnasium
- Consistently hosted over 10 sport camps per summer for the community via Summer Sessions programs through UAF and the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB)
- Overhaul and oversight of Carlson Center event operations for NCAA Division I Hockey, in collaboration with the FNSB
- Largest increase in Hockey attendance in over a decade at the Carlson Center, reaching 4,000+ fans for the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup Series

Prior to UAF, Anundson served at Black Hills State University from 2015-2021 as the Assistant Director of Athletics - Internal Operations & Events. As Assistant Director of Athletics, he had direct oversight of the department's athletic operations, financial operations, human resources, rec and club sports programs, the Donald E. Young Fitness and Aquatics Center, the varsity sports weight room, and capital projects coordinated with facilities services, as well as a portfolio of athletic facilities enjoyed by the BHSU community. Anundson also served as oversight to the NCAA and RMAC as sport administrator for the football, men's and women's basketball, triathlon, and women's soccer programs.
Prior to Black Hills State University, Anundson spent time with the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC) at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. He served as the Programs Coordinator, Operations with the USOPC from 2014- 2015. He also spent time as an Operations Intern and Operations Specialist with the USOPC from Jan. 2011 - Sept. 2012. In addition, Anundson also spent time with the University of Denver in NCAA Division I Athletics as their Athletics/Customer Service Manager from 2012-2014.
Anundson has professional athletics experience over the course of four seasons (2007- 2011) with the Denver Broncos in Stadium Operations. Here, he assisted in the coordination of gameday press box operations, along with NFL teams, officials, and media logistics. He also managed events, business functions, and all Stadium Management Company Operations at Mile High Stadium.
Originally from Baudette, Minn., Anundson played NCAA hockey for the University of Minnesota, Crookston, from 2001-2005. He made his mark in his Freshman year as an All-Tournament Selection during the MCHA (Midwest Collegiate Hockey Association) Conference tournament. His sophomore, through senior seasons, his team pushed through to conference championship games, winning two MCHA Championships in 2003 and 2004. Anundson led his team in scoring during his sophomore through senior seasons, including being a 3x MCHA All-Conference selection. He was named the 2005 MCHA Player of the Year and was named Minnesota, Crookston's Male Athlete of the Year in 2005. He currently ranks first in all-time scoring for his alma mater. Anundson signed with the Colorado Eagles of the ECHL for the 2005-06 season before beginning his career in athletics administration.
Anundson earned his Bachelor of Science in Sport and Recreation Management with a Minor in Coaching from the University of Minnesota, Crookston in 2005, and followed with his Masters of Business Administration with an emphasis in Sports and Entertainment Management and Marketing from the University of Colorado in 2011.
Most recently, Anundson completed his Education Doctorate in Leadership and Innovation with Arizona State University (2021). His research focused on NCAA student-athlete development and career advising. Additionally, he was awarded ASU’s 2020 and 2021 Leadership and Innovation Scholarship Award, along with presentations at the 2019, 2020, and 2021 ASU Doctoral Research Conferences.
Brock and his wife, Kalene, reside in Fairbanks, Alaska, and have three boys (Hendrix, Maddox, Knox).
