COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The No. 2 Alaska Nanook rifle team claimed the top overall spot at the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships following today's air rifle portion of the competition in the event hosted by the United States Air Force Academy.
Alaska finished just one shot behind Air Force in air rifle, after shooting a 2,355 on Saturday. That performance earned the Nanooks a first place finish at the PRC Championships with a combined total of 4,680.
Texas Christian University placed second overall with a total of 4,665 points and Ohio State, who was second after yesterday's round pulled into the third place spot with a final tally of 4,655 points. Air Force's 4,647 total was good enough for fourth place while Nevada (4,596) and UTEP (4,558) rounded out the conference standings.
Ryan Anderson led the way for Alaska with a 593 shot total in the air rifle, which qualified him for the finals at third overall. After the finals, Anderson would place seventh, individually. Lorelie Stanfield also shot a 593 and finished eighth individually.
Sagen Maddalena placed sixth in the individual finals after her shot total of 591 qualified her at seventh overall.
Tim Sherry, who won the gold in yesterday's smallbore competition, shot a 588 today while Mats Eriksson (582) and Luke Johnson (583) rounded out the Nanook scorers.
Alaska has now won back-to-back PRC Championships and returns home for an NCAA Qualifying event on February 21 at the Patty Center's E.F. Horton Rifle Range.
