FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Two Nanook freshmen have already made their mark on the program, setting two Patty Center Pool records Saturday as Alaska defeated Biola in a dual meet for the second straight day, 138-64.
Â
Victoria Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Accounting) set a new pool record in the 200 yard individual medley with a winning time of 2 minutes, 9.52 seconds. That broke junior
Danielle Lyons' (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan/Biological Sciences) mark of 2:11.32 from two seasons ago.
Â
Kathryn Pound (Pahiatua, New Zealand/Business Administration) broke a five-year-old pool record in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.93. Pound won the event by nearly 30 seconds. Biola's (0-2) Victoria Andreas finished second in 5:34.73.
Â
The former record of 5:09.47 was set in 2008 by Erin Dolan of Drury University, who went on to win three individual national titles in distance freestyle events (two in the 1,650 and one in the 1,000). The mark was tied last season by Simon Fraser's Meghan Quon.
Â
Alaska (2-0) won nine of 11 events for the second straight day, and again went 1-2 in five events, including a 1-2-3 sweep in the 200 individual medley.
Â
The Eagles' Christine Tixier won the 200 breaststroke in 2:31.38 after winning the 100 breaststroke Friday. Abby Blake also won for the second time in two days, taking the 1,650 freestyle in 18:18.73.
Â
Pound also won the 200 freestyle in 1:56.56 and was part of the Nanooks' winning 400 freestyle relay team to make her a three-time winner on the day. Juniors
Margot Adams (Anchorage, Alaska/Political Science),
Gabi Summers (Cheyenne, Wyo./Foreign Language) and Lyons were also a part of that team that won in 3:40.73.
Â
Victoria Adams, younger sister of Margot, was also a three-time winner Saturday with a win in the 100 backstroke (58.30) and as part of Alaska's winning 200 medley relay, in addition to her pool-record 200 IM win. Sophomore
Eileen Audette (Seward, Alaska/Fisheries) and senior
Bente Heller (Hamburg, Germany/Psychology) were also a part of that winning 200 medley relay squad.
Â
Heller reined in her second victory in the 50 freestyle in as many days, nearly breaking the pool record of 24.12 again with a winning time of 24.33.
Margot Adams won her first individual event of the season, taking the 200 butterfly in 2:11.21.
Â
Alaska will be back in the Patty Center Pool next week for back-to-back dual meets Friday and Saturday against Loyola Marymount. Friday's meet begins at 6 p.m. and Saturday's events start at 9:30 a.m.
