Head coach Cody Burgess and the Alaska Nanooks women's basketball program announced Jason Nichols as the team's assistant coach for 2010-11 Wednesday.
Most recently, Nichols served as assistant coach for the College of Southern Idaho's women's team last season. He coached guards, broke down film, led morning plyometrics and agility classes, and scouted and recruited players.
Off the court, he was an adjunct physical education professor. He taught courses in basketball, raquetball, beginning strength training and agility.
Nichols began coaching at Boise State University, where he earned his bachelor's in P.E. He served as the men's student assistant coach from 2005-2008. In 2008, the Broncos were crowned Western Athletic Conference regular season champions and reached the NCAA tournament.
He was then hired in 2009 as the boys basketball assistant coach at Capital High School in Boise, where he student taught during his senior year.
“Jason has demonstrated his reliability, responsibility, work ethic, and initiative while working with these programs,” Burgess said. “He is a determined individual and has clear goals for his coaching career. He is anxious to help re-establish the Alaska women's basketball program."
The Nanooks open the season at home against New Mexico Highlands Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at the Patty Center.
