Former Basketball All-American Brad Oleson Wins Spanish League Championship

FAIRBANKS, AK — Former Alaska Nanooks men's basketball NCAA All-American and all-time leading scorer Brad Oleson, added a championship title to his basketball career list of accomplishments Tuesday as the North Pole native helped Caja Laboral Vitoria down Regal FC Barcelona 79-78 in overtime in Spain's ACB League Championship game.

The 6-foot-3 starting shooting guard averaged 7.3 points in the series and contributed seven points with a 3-point basket and 4-for-7 shooting from the free-throw line in 26 minutes of action, helping his team to its third Spanish League championship in team history.

In his first season with Caja Laboral, Oleson played in 10 postseason games, compiling 72 points, 19 rebounds and seven assists.
His two best playoff performances occurred during a five-game semifinal battle against MMC Real Madrid, which signed Oleson last summer before trading him to Caja Laboral.

He had 11 points and seven rebounds in a 62-60 win in the series opener on May 28. Two days later, he produced 17 points, including 4-for-4 free-throw shooting, and collected two rebounds in an 85-80 OT victory.

Oleson spent the 2008-09 season with Alta Gestion Fuenlabrada, finishing as the second-leading scorer in the ACB with 18.1 points per game and he was a 45-percent 3-point shooter.

Real Madrid signed Oleson last summer before trading him to Caja Laboral, with whom he signed a five-year deal in August.

Despite missing several games with an ankle injury, Oleson played in 31 regular-season contests for Caja Laboral. He averaged 5.5 points, 1.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game while shooting 54.4 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from 3-point range and 77.4 percent at the line.
