St. Kitts Forward Javed Williams To Play For Nanooks

FAIRBANKS, AK – Alaska Nanooks men's basketball head coach Clemon Johnson announced the signing of 6-foot-5 forward Javed Williams of St. Paul, St. Kitts, to a National Letter of Intent. He will enter the University of Alaska Fairbanks in the fall as a freshman with four years of NCAA eligibility remaining.

Alaska's senior forward Nash Maynard, who is also a native of St. Kitts, brought Williams to Johnson's attention.

“Javed is what we will consider a raw offensive talent,” said Johnson. “We are encouraged by his ability to rebound the ball, block shots, run the floor and defend the post. He posses the same competitive nature and eagerness to learn and advance his game that Nash has. He will play the 4 (power forward) or 5 (center) for us next season.”

A 2009 graduate of Sandy Point High School, Williams played basketball and football during his prep career. Williams and the Tuff Knots won their first St. Kitts Amateur Basketball Championships in 2007, topping the 18-time champion Rams Hitters. He was named Most Valuable Player at the Reach One Teach One basketball camp, hosted by the National Junior College Athletic Association Hall of Fame Coach John Spezia.

Williams plans to pursue a degree in computer engineering and would like to start his own business someday.

He is the first recruit to sign in the Nanooks class of 2010.
