Felina Rosadiuk (Fairbanks, AK) and junior
Mariya Pavlovskaya (Korolev City, Russia) will represent Alaska at the 2010 NCAA Swimming Championships this week, which take place Wednesday, March 10 through Saturday, March 13. The Championships will be held at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio, hosted by Lock Haven University.
Pavlovskaya returns to the championships after earning three All-American honors in the 2009 championships in the 200-yard IM, 200-yard backstroke and 400-yard IM. This year she ranks 10th of 37 swimmers with a time of 4:30.31 in the 400-yard IM and ranks 16th of 59 swimmers in the 200-yard IM.
“Having already been to nationals as a sophomore, Mariya certainly has gained the necessary experience to stay completely focused and totally relaxed at this year's meet.” said head coach
Scott Lemley. “Her training been almost perfect this year and I believe she's ready to swim very fast this week.”
Pavlovskaya will also participate in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard backstroke.
Rosadiuk becomes the eighth Alaska swimmer in the last five years to swim in the championships and will swim in three events, the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle.
With a time of 51.90 seconds, Rosadiuk ranks 13 out of 74 swimmers in the 100-yard freestyle, while ranking 22nd of 58 in the 200-yard freestyle.
“She's (Rosadiuk) definitely peaking at the right moment, both in terms of where we are in the season and in terms of her career.” stated Lemley “She's mature, confident, supremely fit and has enormously strength and power and will represent us well at this meet.”
In order to qualify as an All-American a swimmer must finish in the top eight of an event, with spots nine through 16 earning Honorable Mention All-American accolades.
